The first and most obvious thing you will need is a YouTube account, but lets start right at the very beginning. You will have to consider what games you will be playing, will it be a puzzle based game, shooting etc. What are you going to call yourself? Maybe something related to the genre you are broadcasting?
Some examples of names used:
(bearing in mind they can be completely random)
VanossGaming
Pewdiepie
Ali-A
StampyLongHead
smoshGames
Some examples I thought up of:
(not sure if they are already being used)
FluxShootGaming
PixTrix
SubTractionGames
MindGigGaming
TheCornyUnicorn
The possibilities are endless and the name will really affect your channel because it will reflect who you are and what you do so always keep that in mind.
So once you've started up and you are looking at a brand new white coated channel you're going to want to make a profile picture for yourself and maybe a banner to add to your glamorous new channel. I have found some ideas online which I will place below (bearing in mind that the images on your channel should reflect what you are doing or who you are). There are people on Youtube who create gaming art for free such as the banners for YouTube, I did have a personalised banner which an old lecturer helped make for my old channel TheJammyBro's but I can't remember his name and it was over 2 years ago so he might not even make them anymore, but its always worth a look unless you have Photoshop at hand with some skills to make these, I myself can make them so pop me a message if you want one done for free.
Examples:
Once you've made your channel look fabulous you're going to need to be kitted up with some recording gear and maybe a mic if you're wanting to do commentary. Here is what I could find, its very good quality for a cheap price, the cheapest capture card I could find.
The elgato capture card, one of the best capture cards around you can pick one up from ebay for around £80. It also comes with its own recording software which has an easy interface. |
Samson Meteor Mic USB Studio Microphone, cheapest I've seen is around £40 but it is crystal clear and worth every penny |
Now that you have all the basic fundamentals down try it yourself but before you upload straight to YouTube you're going to want to show your friends and ask them to crisis your work, its ok if they say they don't like it but make sure you pick up on what they say it will help you to improve, practice makes perfect.
If your career on YouTube goes amazingly well you may get a few emails popping up asking you to join their some what network where they will pay you for views (but really advertisement views) accept who ever you get and make sure you check them out first. There is a whole bunch of rules when it comes to uploading especially if you wish to be paid for your view so read the rules first then upload. There maybe times where your videos are waiting to be accepted and it will decline for some strange reason it happened a lot on my old gaming channel and also if you have music on your channel try and get it royalty free off http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/ It says free but you may still have to pay for certain songs, I know I know it is a cruel world but you could always add a link to whoever's music you are using in your description when uploading.
TIP
And a big one too NEVER spam! EVER because you will just look like a lemon.. If you are struggling with views you always have social media on your side. Start a Twitter or Facebook account and interact with people, don't spam them asking to watch your videos because worst case scenario is that they dislike your video. Make friends, its always good to make friends on a gaming channel because if you were broadcasted on a new friends channel you are basically advertising yourself and make sure they add your channel in their video link but always return the favor because their subscribes may become your subscribers.
feel free to leave any comments you have or even if you want to collaborate with me!
I hope this helps and feel free to check me out too I'm starting in *2015*
